    Math

We follow “Collins International Primary Math”, which is specifically designed to fully meet the requirements of Cambridge Primary Math curriculum framework with problem- solving and discovery approach to teaching and learning of Mathematics. For Grade 7 and above, we use “Cambridge Checkpoint” Course book and Workbook published by Cambridge University Press which is proposed and approved by the Ministry of Education, Oman.

Collins International Primary Maths takes a problem-solving and discovery approach to the learning of mathematics. It follows a clearly structured progression through six levels and supports learners with clearly defined skills and different levels of ability within each unit.

Cambridge Primary Mathematics (Cambridge University Press) series is informed by up-to-date teaching philosophies from around the world. It supports teachers to help all learners become confident and successful mathematicians through an engaging scheme. The curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. It supports teachers to help all learners become confident and successful mathematicians through an engaging scheme. Learners are encouraged to be independent thinkers with the confidence to tackle a wide range of problems and understand the relevance of their mathematics.

At MGPS, we follow best methods and strategies for a quality mathematics lesson. The methods we use are

      • Hands-on
      • Visuals aids
      • Make connections with previous topics
      • Digital resources
      • Formative assessments
      • Observe, modify and reevaluate
      • Math Talk
      • Play Math Games, etc.

    Math

Mathematics is a tool for everyday life, and it is a whole network of concepts and relationships which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world. At Modern Generation Private School, we follow a mastery approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics. Mastery is a journey and a long-term goal achieved through exploration, clarification, practice, and application. At each stage of learning, teachers aim to support our students to demonstrate a deep, conceptual understanding of topics and develop the ability to build on this over time.

We follow the Cambridge curriculum, proposed and approved by the Ministry of Education, Oman. We have divided Mathematics into five main areas called ‘strands’ where learners think and work mathematically; they actively seek to make sense of ideas and build connections between different facts, procedures and concepts. This supports higher-order thinking that helps them to view the world mathematically.

Learners will develop skills in the following:

    • Numbers
    • Addition and subtraction
    • Multiplication and division
    • Measurement
    • Geometry

These strands work together to help students recognise connections between mathematical concepts as they engage in creative mathematical thinking to generate and improve numerical fluency.

    For Grades 1-4

We follow Collins International Primary Mathematics for Grades 1 to 4 (Second Edition). The curriculum encourages a learner-centric and inquiry-based approach to learning. It also develops scholars’ creative thinking, inquiry and problem-solving skills, preparing them for the next stage in their education.

    For Grades 5-8

We follow Cambridge Primary Mathematics by Cambridge University Press for Grades 5 to 8 (Second Edition). In the Mathematics course, the curriculum is designed to develop fluency in knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts. We will be further enhancing the mathematical reasoning so that students will be expected to comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information presented to students in a variety of different ways

    For Grades 9-11

We are following Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics Core and Extended book- Second Edition-for Grade 9 and 10 and Collins Cambridge International AS & A Level-Pure Mathematics for grades 11 and 12. The delivery of the curriculum in the secondary school is a blend of Cambridge IGCSE and internationally renowned best-known 21st Century practices in teaching and learning. Provisions for continuous evaluation to check students’ progress enable teachers to reinforce learning and build resilient, independent learners.

We at MGPS understand that every child should be allowed to break the glass ceiling when it comes to achievement, and we are proud to offer a variety of pathways to our students that aims to draw the very best progress and attainment from them.
